Here is what changes for your experiments.

Live measures. A monitoring profile now has outputs. With
streaming
, the consumption,
radio measures and GPIO events reach the IoT-LAB database during the experiment: follow them
in your browser or query them from your scripts, for 30 days. No need to wait for the end of an
experiment any more. See
Monitoring outputs.

JSON lines files. With the
jsonl
output, the measures of the experiment are written
as one JSON object per line, readable with any language. The OML format is deprecated. It
stays the default for the existing profiles, and we will announce the date of its end.

GPIO events. Your firmware toggles a GPIO line of an M3 or A8-M3 node, and the testbed
records it with its time. Use
gpio2
together with the consumption:
gpio1
stops the
consumption measures. See GPIO events.

Debian images, your own images. The open Linux nodes boot Debian 13 (trixie) instead of
Yocto, now deprecated, and you can boot your own image: an ordinary Docker image built on the
IoT-LAB one. See Linux and the
tutorial.

Web shell and live sniffer. Open a root shell on your open Linux nodes from the web portal,
without SSH client or key, and follow the packets of the radio sniffer live in a
tshark like view. Both are also available from your computer with
ws-cli-tools:
iotlab-ws-shell
and

iotlab-ws-sniffer
, the latter for Wireshark. See
Linux and
Radio monitoring.

New nodes. The NVIDIA Jetson Nano
and Jetson Orin are available
in Saclay: GPU nodes, with Docker, as
open Linux nodes.

A testbed on your desk. The local testbed
runs a small IoT-LAB on one Linux machine, with your own boards.

Upgrade the CLI tools to use these features:
pip install -U iotlabcli
.

IoT-LAB gets a set of new features. IoT-LAB A8-M3 boards first) boot a Debian image built with Docker instead
of the Yocto image, and you can boot your own image on them.

Your image is an ordinary Docker image, built on top of the IoT-LAB one
and pushed to Docker Hub:

The tools of your experiment are ready on every node from the start, the
same on all the nodes, and the image is yours to keep and share.

What changes with the new images:

each node has its own root filesystem, removed at the end of the
experiment (with Yocto, the nodes of an experiment shared one): install
in your image, with
iotlab-ssh run-cmd
, or in
~/shared
;

the journal of each node is copied in

~/.iot-lab/<experiment id>/journal/<node>/
at the end of the
experiment.

Upgrade the CLI tools to 3.4.0 (
pip install -U iotlabcli
) to use

image=
, or use the web portal. Read
Linux for the details and
limits, and follow the
tutorial

Some nodes will be slightly moved.

A new ground truth will be measured and published

Several dwm1001 nodes were initially fixed to furniture which, with time, has created contradictory needs in an active office building :

These furniture items should not be moved to maintain testbed reproducibility and an accurate ground truth

It is sometimes required to move them (change in the floorplan, need to reach a socket behind a cabinet, …)

To solve this, they will be mounted on the ceiling. We will attempt to put them as close as possible to their previous position but the mounting points cannot be installed arbitrarily, therefore there will be some change in their position on the XY plane (at most 35 cm). We will however set them at the same height.

The following dwm1001 nodes will be impacted : 1, 2, 5, 6, 9, 10, 62, 69, 70, 77, 81, 85, 89, 93, 94.
These changes will occur over the coming weeks, starting today with nodes 69 and 70.

Because these dwm1001 nodes will move and we have recently installed new dwm3001 nodes, we will re-measure the ground truth. Since we now have access to a 3D LIDAR scanner, this new ground truth will have a 1mm accuracy over the whole building. The old node positions will be removed on the iot-lab website and on the MQTT broker as soon as the nodes are moved, and they will be updated as soon as the new ground truth is available.

Following the installation of 46 new nodes, more work is coming in Toulouse :

New nodes and board available on the Toulouse site

After some weeks of testing, we are very happy to announce that new nodes and boards are available on the Toulouse site :
